2019 Flor de Silos, Cillar de Silos, Ribera del Duero, Spain

Description

Perfumed and fresh, the nose is wonderfully expressive with crushed plums, lavender and hints of cocoa powder. The palate has a wonderful crunch that coats the entire mouth – with deeply concentrated red fruits and liquorice, with a zesty acidity which cuts right through it. The gentle tannins bring a neat framework to this perfectly balanced wine, leading to a smoky finish. This is a wine with structure for the long term but incredibly tempting now.

Critics reviews

James Suckling 92/100

A mixture of red and black berries with some vanilla, bacon and black olives spiced up by some nutmeg. A hint of citrus, too. Medium body with firm, dusty tannins. Structured and pretty long. Tempranillo.

Drink now, but can hold.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com (Sep 2023)
Luis Gutiérrez 92/100

5,772 bottles were filled in August 2021.

The very ripe 2019 Flor de Silos plays a little dangerously with overripeness. It has notes of prunes and raisins intermixed with an earthy touch and generous smoke, meat, spice and toast from the 18 months in oak. A riper version of Flor.

Today, Ribera stands shoulder to shoulder with Rioja, offering wines of equal prestige but with a distinct, thrilling personality of their own.
