Description
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin, Vieilles Vignes, by Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, covers the full gamut of soil types—gravel, light and heavy clays, sand—with 45- to 85-year-old vines. There is 10% new oak. The nose has a wonderfully spicy, red-berry perfume. This is perfumed and juicy, winning the palate with a very fine, chalky tannic structure.

Cask sample
It is understated and a little ‘animal’ on the palate. Fine tannins. Certainly not a fruit bomb; this is a more ethereal village Gevrey.

Notes of plum and various wild red berries comprise a distinctly earthier and much more sauvage-suffused nose. There is impressive density and volume to the medium-bodied flavours that brim with sappy dry extract that coats the palate on the powerful, youthfully austere, lengthy finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth—good stuff for its level.
Drink 2030+
A light to medium crimson. The bouquet is exquisite, very classy, and fully ripe, thus becoming almost floral but not falling over into excess. There is a good crisp acid balance and just a little blood orange. This is a refined, complex Gevrey.
