2022 Rosso di Montalcino, La Magia, Tuscany, Italy

Description

The fruit here is selected from La Màgia’s ‘young vines’, which are still 15-20 years old. Fermentation temperatures sit below 26 degrees, and maceration is kept short to protect the racy primary character of the wine. The Rosso sees nine months in oak, predominantly older 500l tonneaux with some botti and 10% maturing in amphora.

It is generous and open whilst still holding on to a little mystery. There are layers of fresh cherry, cranberry and bright red berries, with a gentle, earthy complexity and lavender top notes. Fabian loves the 2022 vintage and thinks it is as good as the 2019. There is such a special energy to La Màgia’s early drinking style.

Critics reviews

Audrey Frick 88/100

Medium ruby-colored, the 2022 Rosso Di Montalcino takes a minute to unwind and is highly aromatic with notes of violets, black raspberries, and sweet earth.

The palate is medium-bodied, with a light savory tone of tea leaves and dried herbs as well as dusty tannins. It’s going to be best enjoyed over the near term.

About this wine

Rosso di Montalcino

Rosso di Montalcino

Rosso di Montalcino, a red wine from Tuscany's Montalcino region, is a youthful counterpart to the more reputable Brunello di Montalcino. Made from Sangiovese grapes with a shorter ageing process, it offers approachable fruitiness, vibrant red fruit flavours, balanced acidity, and a medium body, capturing Montalcino's essence without extended ageing demands.
