Description
Julien Sunier is one of the standard-bearers for top-quality “natural” wines in the Beaujolais. Ageing was 80% in used barrels (from Christophe Roumier) and 20% in concrete tanks. The nose has a charming mix of pêche de vigne, spicy wild berries and cherry fruit. The warm and sunny 2022 vintage has imparted plenty of weight, filling out the mid-palate with generous, creamy fruit that is neatly balanced by powdery tannins and a saline, granitic finish.

Critics reviews
From a parcel of 1.1 ha, known as En Oeillat and has an average vine age of 60 years.
An elegant, even perfumed nose features a pretty mix of red and dark gamay scents and floral and spice whiffs. There is fine verve to the appealingly textured medium-weight flavours that conclude in a dusty, moderately firm and somewhat rustic finale. This mildly tangy effort would undoubtedly benefit from being served with an appropriate dish.

It is also a darker purple colour than the typical Sunier model. All is forgiven with the fine, bright, deep fruit on the nose. Julien’s 2022 Regnié offers class as well as volume. It is very intense, with that lovely chiselled concentration behind.
Drink 2025 - 2028
The 2022 Régnié comes from four hectares of vines that will be divided into two cuvées beginning with the next vintage. It has a lovely bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, well-defined with light tangerine scents. The palate is nicely balanced with slightly chalky tannins and an attractive piquancy on the finish. This is Régnié with individuality and class.
