2022 Chablis, Montmains, 1er Cru, Bessin-Tremblay, Burgundy

Description

From 1.28 hectares planted in the late 1960s and early ’70s, this is made in a mix of tank and barrel. There’s a lovely fresh citrus feel here, giving a crisp, chalky expression of Chablis that is quite tight and saline for now. We expect this to gain in breadth with time.

Outstanding

A background hint of reduction blurs the nuances of the more floral, suffused nose, offering a better overall Chablis character. The more obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavours are more refined, culminating in a notably dry, though not especially austere, finale. This is lovely, and I particularly like the balance.
