2021 Il Bruciato, Bolgheri, Guado al Tasso, Antinori, Tuscany, Italy

Description

This is a dark and concentrated edition of Il Bruciato. Bursting with blackberry, black plum and vibrant cherry touches. Some sweet spice and vanilla too. A portion of the Merlot and Syrah were fermented at slightly lower temperatures in order to protect varietal expressiveness and lighter, pretty aromas. This keeps the wine in check brilliantly and provides balance. The blend for 2021 also includes some of the estate’s prized Cabernet Franc and a little Petit Verdot. A little bit of patience here will be key. This has a great future ahead of it.

Critics reviews

James Suckling 92/100

Cocoa, walnuts, cherries and bay leaves on the nose. Well-integrated and medium-bodied with powdery, dusty tannins and some mineral iron notes at the end.

The 2021 Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Guado Al Tasso, Bolgheri Rosso Il Bruciato wine takes a while to open but when it does it is redolent with a range of aromas from a sun-dried fruit, buttered popcorn, blackberry, nuts and vanilla. On the palate the fruit and oak are well matched and combine to produce a smooth, creamy and well-integrated feel. It is well balanced with a lovely, juicy freshness on the finish and a knot of fine-textured, savory tannins. On standing the aromas become more bitter cherry combined with very ripe dried cranberry.

About this wine

Bolgheri

Bolgheri

A new DOC in the coastal Maremma region, Bolgheri first rose to prominence during the 1970s with the emergence of the so-called Super Tuscan wines like Ornellaia and Sassicaia. Having won universal acclaim and selling for unprecedented prices, the authorities relented and awarded Bolgheri its own DOC. The actions of the Super Tuscans inspired a generation in Italy, even if some of the wines here have lost a little of their lustre since.
