Critics reviews
A bit subtler than Ma Cuvée. It's really very complex and fun. Long and rich with a dry finish.
Drink 2027 - 2043
Reserved, indeed almost introverted, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, spices, rose petals and grilled meats. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and serious, built for the cellar, even in this vintage.
From En Champs, Combe de Dessus and Aux Echézeaux that contain vines up to 120 years old.
An equally fresh if slightly riper nose reflects notes of red and dark wild currant, the sauvage and cool spice wisps. There is outstanding concentration to the seductively rich yet notably powerful larger-scaled flavors that exude an evident minerality on the youthfully austere, complex and beautifully long finish. This compact and decidedly firm effort is very impressive and if served blind, could easily pass for a 1er.
Drink from 2031 onward
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from three climats that are populated by 80- to 100-year-old vine cropped at 15hL/ha. It includes 50% whole bunches with central stems removed. It has a perfumed, incense and potpourri infused bouquet with exquisite delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite infused red fruit, very harmonious with a tense, razor-sharp, mineral-driven finish. Excellent.
Drink 2025 - 2040
The Très Vieilles Vignes cuvée is made from 80-120 year old vines in En Champs, Combes and Aux Echezeaux. 50% has been vinified in pedicel fashion, and 20% has been aged in new wood. A beautiful mid purple. Serene fruit on the nose, with intensity without heaviness. A certain sweetness to the middle of the palate without clumsy sucrosity, and a really fine texture, with tannins entirely hidden within.
