2021 Hermitage Blanc, Domaine Marc Sorrel, Rhône

Description

The medium-bodied 2021 Hermitage Blanc unfurls with lemon flesh, spring blossom, pear and white peach. Focused and layered, the 2021 stuns with striking energy and lifting freshness. Neatly balanced by bright acidity, the 2021 is a precise and athletic Hermitage Blanc with secure ageing potential. That being said, it’s utterly delicious even today.

Critics reviews

Alistair Cooper MW 16.5/20

Beeswax, honey, chamomile and anise. The palate is ripe with honeysuckle, marzipan and white flowers—a nutty note on the finish. Ripe but still has a good core of acidity. It is not hugely concentrated and light in style for the Hermitage, but it is an attractive, fresher style.

18 months in old barriques. 70-year-old vines

Classic Hermitage weight, density and richness on the palate, with lovely acidity and a remarkably mineral expression. The long finish is surprisingly potent. Unusually, this is ready already, though well-concentrated.

About this wine

Hermitage

Hermitage

The most famous of all the northern Rhône appellations, its 120 hectares produce tiny quantities of very long-lived reds. The vines were grown in Roman times, although local folklore claims their origins to be 600 years earlier. The wines are powerful, with a deep colour and firm tannins, and the potential to age for many decades. The best Hermitage is produced from several climats blended together.
