2021 Crozes-Hermitage, Mise en Bouche, Emmanuel Darnaud, Rhône

Description

Aromas of blackberry and black cherry come through on the deliciously fresh and lifted nose of this wine. The palate is full of crunchy red and black fruit and is soft, yet also savoury. The brilliant, tissue-like tannins melt on the palate. This has a fine, granitic lift and a gorgeous freshness with a juicy, black cherry finish. This would be wonderful to enjoy whilst youthful, yet it will still improve over the next few years. It is very lovely indeed.

Critics reviews

Nicolas Greinacher 87/100

Vinified with 40% whole clusters, the 2021 Crozes-Hermitage Mise en Bouche exhibits pretty red fruits intertwined with a distinctively herbaceous streak. Light—to medium-bodied and refreshing, it presents a relatively abrupt yet clean finish.

Revealing a ruby/plum hue, the 2021 Crozes-Hermitage Mise En Bouche offers solid notes of ripe dark fruits, peppery herbs, and violets. This charming, medium-bodied, nicely textured, forward Crozes has plenty of character, soft tannins, and a delicious style geared for near-term drinking.

About this wine

Crozes-Hermitage

Crozes-Hermitage

This is the largest AC in the Northern Rhône, producing over half of the Northern Rhône’s total production. The appellation was created in 1937 with the single commune of Crozes, but today there are 11 communes. The Syrah variety is king, but Marsanne and Roussanne are also permitted (up to 15 percent). The wines vary hugely in quality and style, with the majority of the reds fairly light in style.
