2021 Dog Point, Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand

Description

If it has to be a red wine for turkey, New Zealand has the answer with this delicious, silky, cranberry and red cherry-fruited Pinot.

Jane MacQuitty, The Times (December 2024)

Bright garnet. Quite a subtle (dry!) nose of restrained cranberry fruit and, like the Chardonnay 2021, bone dry. It survived well in an open bottle, which suggests a long life. Far from simplistic, but it's so dry that it demands food. It's not a casual wine bar sipper. It's really refreshing and long. Well done! It is positively savoury (very unlike many a Marlborough Pinot) and a wine that should be of interest to Burgundy lovers.

Made by Cloudy Bay alumni, winemaker James Healy and viticulturist Ivan Sutherland, this textbook example of Marlborough Pinot Noir is bright and vibrant, with generous ripe red berry succulence. Fragrant with cranberries, wild strawberry, redcurrants and a dash of dill. It's crunchy and fresh, and drinking beautifully now, though with the potential to age for another few years. One for those who prefer their NZ Pinots bright and fruity rather than dark and meaty.

Screw cap

Strawberries, cranberries and lavender with orange zest, sweet squash and a hint of tomato leaf. Medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and velvety tannins. Zesty and flavoursome on the palate. Good harmony. From organically grown grapes.
