This is an exquisite Riesling from a single vineyard planted in 1973. The wine is full of energy and mineral notes emerge out of the glass straightaway, with aromas of lemon zest white flowers and a touch of flintiness. On the palate a sense of stony minerality in first instance gives way to flavours of green apple, juicy fresh lemon and lime. Freshness and minerality are the hall marks of this wine, that will require patience but will evolve beautifully, developing amazing complexity.

Critics reviews

Stephan Reinhardt 94/100

This wine weighs only two grams per liter of residual sugar and 13.2% alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine.

From 46-year-old vines yielding 53 hectoliters per hectare, the 2019 Clos Häuserer Wintzenheim Riesling intermingles ripe, aromatic and refreshing citrus fruit mandarins and lemons) intertwined with the deep, calcareous marl notes from the Häuserer clos. Lush and elegant on the palate, with vivacious mineral acidity, this is a full-bodied, dense, intense, very concentrated and persistently mineral-structured 2019 Riesling with a vital, complex and still young but elegant and juicy finish.

This tiny parcel 1.2ha), planted in 1973, always produces vibrant and energetic wines. The 2019 offers herbs, lemon, peach and mineral aromas, intertwined with some racy and subtle gunflint aromas. The palate is tense, very long, with a fine-grained texture and much freshness. Despite its well-managed acidity, this wine has depth, is fleshy, and has remarkable purity.

From biodynamically grown grapes.

With its cornucopia of yellow fruit, floral notes and wet-stone character, this is at once fleshy and enormously structured. Nothing opulent or warm about it at all, though. In fact, the very long finish is decisively cool. You really need some time to take in this embarrassment of riches!
