2019 Barolo, Coste di Rose, Vajra, Piedmont, Italy

Giuseppe Vaira describes this special vineyard as “an unknown gem”. It lies facing south-east on the steep rising hill between Cannubi and Bussia, at the back of the Barolo commune. Here, friable sandstone soils give aromatics and detail to the wines. The Coste di Rose is a bright, perfumed Barolo, with wild rose, raspberry and peach skin notes on the nose. The palate is cool and coiled with notes of blood orange, pine and high-toned spices. There is lots of purity and tension in the wine, which has softer tannins than many 2019s.
