Description
The ancient vines of Olivier’s La Rochelle’s tiny parcel – situated high above the Cru’s eponymous windmill at an altitude of almost 300 metres – give this wine a wonderful concentration, with touches of pepper, graphite and a slight leafiness. The palate has gorgeous violet floral touches and serious but juicy granite-laden tannins.

Critics reviews
From vines planted in 1937. This is very dense purple in colour. It would normally be bottled in March but the intensity is such that the Merlins may hold it back further. Somewhat reductive, with concentrated dark strawberries, a touch of camphor and coffee, notable tannins, some iodine. A very weighty wine we shall have to wait for.
This is normally vinified with 100% whole clusters.
This is sufficiently reduced to require a thorough aeration if you're tempted to open a bottle young. Otherwise there is again excellent volume and mid-palate density to the plus, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a firm, serious and youthfully austere finish that is not quite as well-balanced as the regular cuvée. Patience suggested.
Drink from 2026 onward.
Olivier Merlin’s tiny La Rochelle’s parcel is located above Moulin-á-Vent’s eponymous windmill. There’s an earthy, graphite edge to the bright cherry, pomegranate and brambly aromas. Light-bodied but with plenty of verve, the palate has lovely crunch and freshness, with juicy tannins, more pomegranate fruit, floral hints and a seam of minerality.
