2016 Amrut, Special Limited Edition Ex-Bourbon, Cask #197, Single Malt Whisky, India (60%)

This single malt whisky is distilled and, crucially, aged in the south Indian city of Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore). These very warm conditions, relatively low humidity, and high altitude create an intense maturation environment. A huge evaporation loss (a process nicknamed the “angel’s share”) has resulted in richly concentrated flavours and textures - after seven years, around half a barrel has evaporated. It offers delicious notes of almond and walnut, cassia bark, nutmeg and the singed edges of baked fruit tarts. A splash of water brings harmony to these flavours.
